Civic DevelopmentDesign, plant and maintain the Club's beautification projects. Develop and manage the Maintenance Schedule. Oversee special civic projects. Develop publicity for Club events if desired, informing the Publicity Chairperson in advance.
ConservationShare quick tips on saving our earth's energy and resources.
ContactSelect individuls to notifying members of upcoming meetings and events. If aware of a member's illness, inform the Chairperson .
Garden TherapyWork with the elderly, homebound, disabled and/or ill.
HistorianCollect and maintain a history of the Club and its events and display the history from time to time.
HorticultureShare information on plants and gardening.
HospitalitySet up annual Hostess Schedule and find replacements if necessary. Keep and maintain the inventory of supplies. Be responsible for the keys and tablecloths.
Junior GardeningPresent projects to young people to interest them in gardening.
MembershipPromote new members, maintain list of members for Treasurer, President, Secretary and Telephone Chairperson. Collect dues, send notices of dues and submit amount to Treasurer. Make nametags, collect fees, and provide Membership Forms and membership information. Introduce guests and new members.
NominatingAsk members to fill selected posts and submit names to the Board for review and then to the membership for approval at the Annual Meeting.
Outstanding Member AwardReview written nominations from the membership each year, select a nominee to receive The Watertown Garden Club's Outstanding Member of the Year and submit the winner's name to the Federated Garden Clubs of CT for any appropriate state or national award(s). Nominations are due on or before the 2nd Thursday in October. The committee will consist of the previous year's outstanding member and two other club members. Service between October 1st of previous year to September 30th of current year will be considered. The winner will be announced at the Annual Meeting and will receive a $50 gift certificate from the Club. The Club will sponsor the winner and the Club President in office during the service period of the award at the Federated Garden Clubs of CT awards dinner the following October.
ProgramsPlan programs for each meeting and Club trip. Introduce and thank program speakers. Make necessary arrangements for program presentations. Supervise Club raffles. Develop publicity for the Club's programs if desired, informing the Publicity Chairperson in advance. Develop programs for the following year. Oversee the seating and returning of chairs, projectors, etc. to proper places.
PublicityPublicize meetings at least one week prior to meeting date. Send publicity to other clubs at least one month in advance of event. Support committee chairs with promotional material if requested and provide media deadlines to committee chairs.
ScholarshipSend a letter of contact by October 1 to Watertown High School and Nonnewaug High School with Club scholarship information. In February develop a newspaper article to invite local students to apply for the Club scholarship. The recipient must be a resident of Watertown and intend to be enrolled in a 2-4 year horticultural or environmental program. The Scholarship committee will review the applications and present the information to the membership. The number of scholarships and the amount to be awarded will be determined by the membership.
SunshineFollow Executive Board policy of sending cards and flower plantings, fruit baskets, etc. to cheer recipients.
